Sathya Sai Baba

“I am God. And you too are God. The only difference between you and Me is that while I am aware of it, you are completely unaware.”                                                                                                                                   Baba

On 23 November 1926 in the small rural village of Puttaparthi in what is now the state of Andhra Pradesh, India, Satyanarayan Raju took birth. Even as a child, His spiritual inclination and contemplative nature set Him apart from other children of His age. He was considered by His peers and other villagers to be a ‘Guru’ and “Brahmajnani’ (knower of Brahman or Godhead).

On October 20, 1940, at the age of fourteen, young Satyanarayanan told his family, “I am the reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba, my devotees are waiting for me.” With this, He left family and school behind to take up sanyas and begin His mission. (footnote: Shirdi Sai Baba was a great saint who passed away in 1918. Before He died, he told His devotees that He will reincarnate in 8 yrs. or 1926.) Young Satyanarayan Raju became known as Sathya Sai Baba. Through the years Swami has written and spoken with the greatest eloquence on the highest spiritual ideals using the simplest of words.  We therefore, humbly defer our attempt at describing the greatness of divinity by letting divinity express Itself. Below are the inspired and divine words of Lord Sathya Sai Baba.

 “This Sai has come in order to achieve the supreme task of uniting the entire mankind as one family through the bond of brotherhood, of affirming and illuminating the Atmic reality of each being, to reveal the Divine which is the basis on which the entire cosmos rests, and of instructing all to recognize the common Divine Heritage that binds man to man, so that man can rid himself of the animal and rise up to the Divine, which is the goal.”

“I have resolved to enfold the people of the world in the fostering care of Universal Love. For the world is my mansion and the continents are the halls therein. I have come to inscribe a golden chapter in the history of humanity, wherein falsehood will fail, truth will triumph and virtue will reign. Character will confer power then, not knowledge or inventive skill nor wealth. Wisdom will be enthroned in the councils of the nations. Do not be misled. It is not my purpose to strike men dumb by the display of miraculous might. I have come to confer the boon of blessedness, the benediction of bliss as the reward for genuine spiritual endeavor and to lead mankind into liberty, light and love.”

“Use me for your liberation and uplift by watching my every step. Observe my actions and activities. Follow the guiding principle of which my life is an elaboration. Mark my love, my compassion and wisdom. Try to bring them into your own life. My life is my message.”

“I have come not to disturb or destroy any faith, but to confirm each in his own faith, so that the Christian becomes a better Christian, the Muslim a better Muslim and the Hindu a better Hindu.”

“Follow the five-fold path for a meaningful life:  Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Righteousness), Shanti (Peace), Prema (Love) and Ahimsa (Non-Violence).”

“The Sai Organization is simply a gathering together of souls who have started to become awakened to the Truth. Devotees join the Organization to give, to receive, to progress, to learn, to become inspired and to serve. But the Organization itself is not important. It exists only for what it gives. It gives an opportunity for searching souls to gather together and find the way to progress along the spiritual path and to help others on the same journey.”

“It is surprising to me to note that you have been unable to recognize the relation between religion, spirituality and educare. First and foremost, understand what religion is. Religion is realization. What is to be realized? When you realize who you are, then you will understand what religion is. So, religion is realization of your Self. It is Love that takes you to this realization…”
